What that means in practice

The tours listed here are sold through GetYourGuide and Viator. When you follow a link from one of these pages and go on to book, the platform pays us a share of its own commission. You pay the same fare either way; the price on the booking page is the operator's price, not a marked-up one.

What we are not

We are not a tour operator. We do not run any of these tours, employ any of these guides, pilots or skippers, or hold your booking. Your contract is with the operator, through the platform.

We have no connection with the Department of Conservation, Tourism New Zealand, Fiordland & Lakes Tourism, Milford Sound Tourism, Immigration New Zealand or any cruise, coach, flight or jet boat operator.

How tours get listed

Operators cannot pay for placement, position or a badge. A badge on a card is a measured claim: Top rated only on a tour rated 4.9 or higher, Best seller only on the tour with the most reviews, Best value only on the cheapest. A platform's own badge is not shown. Today Best seller sits on the small-group Milford Sound day from Queenstown, Top rated on the flight and nature cruise (rated 5.0), and Best value on the three-hour Lake Te Anau cruise with a guided walk, which shares the lowest fare with the evening champagne cruise.

The featured tours at the top of the homepage are three different kinds of day from three different starting points: a small-group Milford Sound day from Queenstown, a Doubtful Sound day from Manapouri, and a small-boat cruise you board at the Milford Sound terminal.

Two listings are the same operator's Milford Sound day from Queenstown, sold on the two platforms under different names and with different details (13 hours or 11, and different departure times). They are never shown side by side, and each is described from its own listing.

Prices, ratings and how current they are

Prices, star ratings and review counts belong to the operators and were taken from their own listings on 21 September 2026. They move, and the figure at checkout is the one that counts. Every fare is quoted in US dollars because that is the currency the listings were captured in; nothing is converted at an exchange rate. Where a review count differs between a listing's summary and its star breakdown, the breakdown's total is shown. Every fare here is per person; the Fiordland Jewel overnight books in pairs of adults, and says so.

The facts about the park, the road, the tunnel, the parking advice, the huts and the weather are the Department of Conservation's and Visit Fiordland's. The levy is Immigration New Zealand's. The Milford Sound parking charges come from the operators' own listings, which agree with each other, because the Milford Sound and Milford Road sites did not answer when we checked. Where a detail comes from a listing, such as a meeting point, a group size, a minimum age, a weight limit or what the fare covers, it belongs to that tour.

What we deliberately do not publish

A single completion year for the Homer Tunnel. DOC's own pages give 1953 and 1954. We say that work began in 1935 and that the tunnel opened in the 1950s.
A single date for World Heritage status. Fiordland was listed in 1986 and became part of Te Wāhipounamu in 1990; we say "World Heritage since 1986, part of Te Wāhipounamu".
Rankings. One listing calls its boat the number one cruise boat on the fiord. Nobody publishes that ranking, so it is not repeated.
A private cruise that is not. One booking platform labels a shared, half-filled small boat as private. It is described as what it is.
An entrance fee. One listing says its fare includes entrance fees. There is no entry fee on Lake Te Anau or in the park, so that line is not shown.
Helicopter and eco tours. Every flight listed here is a fixed-wing plane, and no listing is sold or certified as an eco tour, so neither is offered.
Wildlife promises. Dolphins, seals and penguins are often seen and never guaranteed.
